Apothecary
The apothecary offers handmade, wildcrafted herbal medicines cultivated to restore the vital nature of the body & reconnect us to the healing power of the land. These medicines are crafted in and around Mangaroa Valley through a fruitful collaboration with Mangaroa Farms, and nurtured through the herbalist’s hard work and devotion. Every leaf, root, and flower handled with care and intention is a testament to the time spent identifying plants, foraging in the forest, and attuning to plants rhythms & cycles to create medicine that is both sacred & symbiotic ~ as nature intended.

There’s a misconception that children, pregnant women or breastfeeding mamas can’t consume tinctures containing alcohol. While it may be a personal preference not to, it’s important to understand in many cases alcohol plays a major role in pulling out specific chemical constituents making the plant medicine even more effective at doing its job & making it shelf stable. Realistically one dropper full (which is about 25-30 drops) has about as much alcohol as a ripe banana or vanilla extract. The dosage for a child is significantly smaller than what an adult may take. If you feel uncomfortable & want the medicinal properties of the herbs but want to remove the alcohol you can always get a cup of boiling water or tea & drop the appropriate dosage into it. Make sure to leave it uncovered so the heat can evaporate the alcohol from the water. As always use your own discernment & do what you feel is comfortable.
I would consider this to be the standard dosage for children. Add to water, juice or tea. If you ever find yourself needing guidance please feel free to fill out our contact form.

Young's Rule - Add 12 to the child's age. Divide the child's age by this total. Example: dosage for a 4 year old: 4 divided by 16 (4+12) = .25, or 1/4 of the adult dosage.
Cowling's Rule - Divide the number of the child's next birthday by 24. Example: dosage for a child who is 3, turning 4 would be: 4 divided by 24 = .16, or 1/6 of the adult dosage
